The Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga has clarified that the Kingdom will not be standing behind any candidate in the forthcoming general elections.
Mayiga made the clarification this morning while meeting a team of National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders who paid him a visit at Bulange, Mengo.
During the meeting, the Premier said the Kingdom would rally behind who whoever emerged winner in February next year as long as they love and respect the Kingdom.
“We therefore ask all contestants from various political parties as they prepare their manifestos to indicate their positions on the already known Buganda’s Development strategies,” Mayiga added.
Regarding the recently concluded NRM party Primaries, Mayiga congratulated all winners and asked them to serve their electorate as they promised and beyond.
He also called on the ruling party to ensure that there is a free and fair election.
On the other hand, Mayiga thanked President Yoweri Museveni and the cabinet for returning the vintage Rolls Royce which was Ssekabaka’s Mutesa 1’s official vehicle.
“We are in the process of restoring it to its original state and we hope that Government will support us having kept this vehicle for quite a long period of time.”
The NRM delegation included Hon Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, Hon Ruth Nankabirwa, And Hon Nantongo Zziiwa a former East African Legislative Assembly Speaker among others.
