Buganda Cycling Association Ushers in New Leadership Committee

Buganda Kingdom in conjunction with the International Bamboo and Ratian Organization (INBAR) have ushered in a new leadership committee for the Buganda Cycling Association.

The committee unveiling and the official handover ceremony which was graced by Speaker of Buganda Patrick Luwagga Mugumbule as the chief guest took place on Wednesday at Bulange Gardens, Mengo.

The Kingdom’s minister for sports, Leisure and recreation Owek. Henry Sekabembe Kiberu, Uganda Cycling Association president Sam Muwonge Mahabba, outgoing chairman Hajji Buruhan Ssekibenga, and other members were all in attendance.

Minister Ssekabembe during his speech decried the wrangles within the Uganda Cycling Association and urged the different administrators to end all chicken fights to facilitate the progress of the sport.

“I’m honored to officiate the handover ceremony and ushered in a new leadership committee. It’s time now to work tirelessly and end chicken fights amongst administrators of the cycling Association. I urge the new Committee to work wholeheartedly and improve on the sport,” Ssekabembe said.

Mathias Lukwago who replaced Buruhan Ssekibenga as the new committee chairman, pledged to lift the association to greater heights and bridge the gap between the Buganda and other Kingdoms through masterminding inaugural Inter Kingdoms competitions, Buganda Cyling Tour, Kabaka Coronation Cycling championships among others.

He will work alongside Gerrard Kizito and Amanda Ngabirano as Vice chairman (Technical) and Vice Chairman (Administration).

Other members on the newly elected committee include Patrick Ssemambo (Treasurer), Isa Kimbugwe Batyayambadde (Public Relations Officer) and Ntege Steven (Marketing Promotions and International relations).


The outgoing leadership committee had Ssekibenga (Chairman), Robert Kakooza (Competitions), Henry Nsereko (Secretary), Frank Buyondo (retained as treasurer) and Yusuf Mbaziira (Co-founder).

Others are Laila Nansubuga (Sponsorship), Deborah Nanyondo and Charles Muramata (Advisors), and Batyayambadde who has been retained as the Public Relations Officer.
