Just hours after the Inspector General (AIGP) of Police Martin Okoth Ochola apologized to both Buganda Kingdom and the Catholic Church over last Saturday’s incident where Mbogo Clan members and other religious leaders were teargassed by police, a group of Buganda Kingdom clan elders have given Government a weeklong ultimatum to take disciplinary action against all officers involved in this incident.
Engineer Sulaiman Mukasa Kateregga, Chairman of Mituba Mukaaga from Makindye Division noted that while on several occasions Police has apologized after such incidences, similar acts have continued to happen in various parts of the country.
“Government must openly come up and condemn this act, prosecute all errant officers publicly so that other officers may not engage in similar actions of undermining Buganda Kingdom and Human Rights,” he said.
Walukuka Wasswa the old Mutongole for Sebuliba zone Kansanga in Makindye Division asked President Museveni to intervene and set up an independent tribunal to investigate the reason behind such actions
“We all know very well that the relationship between the central government and Buganda has been improving. If this situation is not properly handled it may injure this relationship.”
The elders are expected to meet the Buganda Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga to whom they will present a petition concerning their dissatisfaction.
