Bright Stars Hold Wakiso Giants to Fifth Consecutive Draw

Wakiso Giants 2-2 Bright Stars

Bright Stars has prolonged Wakiso Giants’ hopes for a maiden win in the 2020/2021 Uganda Premier League season following a 2-2 draw on Friday at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.

The draw was the fifth in a row for the Purple Sharks who had shared spoils in their last four games; Police (0-0), Kyetume (2-2), Onduparaka (0-0), and Vipers Sports Club (1-1).

Diminutive center forward Joseph Janjali drew first blood in the match for Soltilo Bright Stars on the stroke of halftime taking a 0-1 lead.

With just a minute into game restart, talisman Ssekajugo Viane restored parity for Wakiso Giants off a thunderous strike inside the area.

Off-season signing Ibrahim “Owen” Kasule later fired the home side in the lead after 76 minutes with a stunner from 40 yards which beat helpless custodian Simon Tamale to find the back of the net.

The game seemed done and dusted for the Purple Sharks who were planning to celebrate their first win but Robert Sempala’s last minute gasp equalizer left the home crowd and Wakiso Giants’ technical bench in frenzy.

This fifth draw for Douglas Bamweyana’s charges puts them on five points in the 8th position, one slot above Bright Stars.

Wakiso Giants will visit Mbarara City on February 12th next year as Bright Stars welcome Kitara on Saturday in the aftermath of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
