Brig Flavia Byekwaso, the recently appointed spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has Friday officially started work.
Byekwaso takes over from Brig Richard Karemire, who has been the army’s mouthpiece since 2017.
At the hand over, she commended the outgoing spokesperson “for the great work” and said the entire UPDF fraternity wished him well.
“I look forward to working closely with you for the common good of our country. The struggle continues,” she said.
Brig Byekwaso has been serving as one of the UPDF Members of Parliament since 2016.
The 39-year-old becomes the first ever female UPDF spokesperson.
Karemire on the other hand takes over as Defense Liaison Officer at EAC, replacing Gen Victor Musinguzi who collapsed and died in his bathroom in Rukungiri.
Karemire replaced Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda in 2017.
