A good cause with clear motives will always have the backing of credible individuals and organisations. It is on this note that the Brian Umony Charity game aimed at giving back to the less privileged people around Naguru, a suburb in Kampala has continued to gather moss.
On Tuesday, the event added Africell and Bet Lion as partners to the long list of sponsors that they have attracted before
The aforementioned will be partnering in the Naguru give back charity event that is slated for Saturday, 30th June to help raise the much needed facilities for Naguru Echo FC( a team playing in the 4th division) and the Naguru remand home.
Mr. Edgar Karamagi, Africell Publicist lauded Cranes player Brian Umony for the initiative and indicated the move to touch the community pushed them to come on board.
“As Africell, we are always inspired by the need to cause meaningful change in the lives of Ugandans. We are always looking for causes that touch the community and when we heard Brian was doing a charity event to empower Naguru and that’s the reason we sought to help him. “
Lionel Kabenge who represented Bet Lion shared almost similar sentiments with Karamagi and thanked Umony for not forgetting his roots.
“This is a vivid example that we can help communities where we leave and that have shaped us. Umony grew up in Naguru and because the it shaped him to the person he is today, he felt it was important to give back. Therefore as Bet Lion this was enough for us to join him. “ He stated.
Kabenge as well asserted that as a company, they have a plan to transform the sports sector in the country and thus incentives like the Umony Foundation help to bridge the gap. Bet Lion recently became the official betting partner of the Uganda Cranes.
Umony while speaking at the press conference revealed that the idea to have this charity event came two years ago while still playing at St. George in Ethiopia. He hopes that by talking to the youth in Naguru, he will be able to transform them from indulging in crime to being useful people to the society.
Naguru has been a breeding ground for many sports personalities not only in football but cutting across other sports disciplines like rugby, cricket and basketball among others.
The game will see Umony select team comprising of former and current Uganda Cranes players take part in a charity game at Startimes stadium Lugogo on Saturday against Echo FC a team based in Naguru and all proceedings will go towards supporting the team and the Naguru Remand home.
Some of the players that have confirmed their presence include; Andy Mwesigwa, David Obua, Geoffey Massa, Joseph Ochaya, Mohammad Shaban and Dennis Okot among others.
Prior to the main game, there will be a curtain raiser between celebrities including artirstes like Eddy Kenzo, Gravity and comedian Salvador among others against Sports Journalists under their umbrella body USPA.
Africell and Bet Lion join other sponsors that include Standout Marketing, Next Media, Sports Fan Magazine and Radio City.
