Former Minister and senior UPDF officer, Lt. Gen Henry Tumukunde has at last ended the long running speculation, declaring Monday afternoon that he will be contesting for the highest office on the land.
Gen Tumukunde, as ChimpReports predicted in July last year, trumpeted that he will be running for president in a letter to the Electoral Commission.
“I join all well-meaning Ugandans to support the fundamental change which we promised Ugandans in the past and a peaceful transition from one generation to another,” he said.
The former spy chief has earlier in the day posted a teaser in form of a famous quote on his social media, implying he has no personal connections to President Yoweri Museveni.
“When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat. For i have always supported measures and Principles and not men,” he posted, quoting former US President Ronald Reagan.
Tumukunde today declared his ambitions in a letter to the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, which he hand delivered to the Commission Offices.
In the letter, Tumukunde asked to be allowed to commence national consultations.
“The consultations, he said, will target various interest groups with the view of facilitating his decision ahead of Octobers Presidential nominations.”
