Breaking: Dr Olara Otunnu In Serious Road Accident

Private Ninsiima Frank one of the six people undergoing  a trial for treachery, salve aiding and abetting treason in the  Makindye General court martial has asked court to remove on record a statement presented to the court by the prosecution pinning him on the offences of Treason.

Before the court martial chaired by Maj Gen Elly Karuhanga, malady Ninsiima last week informed court that the guilty plea he had earlier made was out of intimidation and fear of losing his life and that he signed it on gun point.

This afternoon, Ninsiima told court that he was disgracefully dismissed from the army on 7th August 2009 and thus he was no longer a Private, as the charge and caution statement refers to him.

About the statement containing his own signature, he remarked that he did this on a gun point without perusing through the content.

“On signing that statement I was put on a gun point and told that once I don’t sign I was to be killed and relatives were not going to have access to my body. I went ahead and signed, well aware that an opportunity would come where I would change the statement in court,” he said.

Ninsiima identified the person who forced him to sign as Capt Albert Kashakamba, who he said he had never held a grudge with.

Last week Ninsiima Frank testified before court that he underwent brutal torture from the 5th May May 2013 when he was arrested, he was tortured during his detention in safe houses before being taken to police and stayed for four days without food.

Ninsiima says with a combination of all these factors he was forced to accept that he was in the recruitment exercise of Soldiers on behalf of General Sejusa who was in exile by then.

The case has been adjourned to 24th March for the prosecution to file in its reply on the request by the Accused to court regarding the nullifying of the charge and caution statement.
