Detectives have arrested a swimming pool attendant at the glamorous Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, Kampala, following the drowning of a boy at the facility on Sunday.
The boy’s parent called police to help in the rescue efforts only to find a motionless body.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire said Abdul Karim was apprehended following the interrogation of the hotel’s General Manager Mr Sven Saint-Calbe at Kabalagala Police Station.
The manager has since been “released on bond.”
Owoyesigire said Mr Sven is “not the suspect we were looking for. We wanted him to provide us with information to arrest the pool attendant (Abdul).”
ChimpReports understands Sven was quizzed about the hotel’s health and safety guidelines for the swimming pool.
Abdul now faces possible charges related to rush and neglect
The hotel has since been urged to beef up manpower at the pool and enforce strict guidelines to avoid such incidents in future.
