Boxer Juma Miiro has dedicated his commonwealth Bronze medal to the President of Uganda Boxing Federation Moses Muhangi.
Miiro lost his semi final bout in Gold Coast to India’s amit Panghal in the flyweight (49kgs), to settle for a bronze medal.
These rumurs started earlier at Entebbe Airport during the arrival of the participants when Boxing President Muhangi was seen posing with the medal before he gave it back to Juma Miiro.
When this website got a chance to speak with the boxer, he confirmed the news;
Am dedicating this news to my Federation President (Muhangi), he has put in a lot to see that this is achieved.
I have many people to thank for my success but I am sure that President Muhangi is on top of that list.”
President Muhangi recently re-affirmed his decission that he will pay any Boxer who will bring home a medal from Australia, and Miiro falls in that bracket.
Speaking about what transpired in Australia, he explained:
”The competition was tough, there are a lot good fighters out there, but all I can say is that I could have gone further but I got an injury in my semi final bout when a heavy punch landed on me inside the first round.
I have learned a lot and am sure that come the Olympics, it will be gold.”
It should be remembered that in August 2017, Cheptegei dedicated his silver medal, which he had won in the IAAF World Championships, to President Museveni.
