Bodaboda Cyclist Detained from Injuring UPDF Officer

A 28-year-old bodaboda rider in Kamwezi Sub County Rukiga district has been arrested for allegedly injuring a UPDF officer on duty.

The victim is Pte Richard Akuku Guma, attached to the 17th battalion at Irenga in Ntungamo district, while the suspect has been identified as Adson Ahimbisibwe, a resident of Mutojo village in Kamwezi Sub County.

Pulkeria Muhindo, the Rukiga Resident District Commissioner says the incident happened on Tuesday night at around 8:30pm in Kamwezi at the border of Uganda and Rwanda; where the suspect allegedly knocked the solder with his bodaboda UEX 942R, to avoid arrest.

Muhindo says the suspect intentionally hit the victim, fracturing his left leg and injuring his face.

“He was rushed to Kamwezi Health Center IV and later that night, was referred to Mbarara Regional Referral hospital,” she said.

Muhindo who is the Chairperson of Rukiga District Covid-19 taskforce said the suspect is detained at Kamwezi Police post and will be charged accordingly.

Major Charles Kabona, the UPDF 2nd Division spokesperson confirmed the incident and cautioned motorists to always follow road safety precautions.
