In a bid to wipe out boda boda hitmen in Kampala metropolitan area, police on Tuesday mounted an operation in which three men believed to be part of a racket of boda boda robbers were arrested.
The trio was identified as Muzamir Katende of Namasuba, Asuman Kiyemba of Bujjuko and Robert Sserunjoji of Kasenge in Nakawuka.
On arrest, the suspects confessed to the crimes before police and have since been detained at Katwe police station.
According to police, the suspects have been charged with robbery and the case has been registered in file SD REF. 06/31/03/2018.
Kampala Metropolitan Police in a statement said that the suspects waylay boda boda riders at different spots around the city.
“Some robbers clobber cyclists with iron bars and take off with their motorcycles,” reads part of the statement.
It is also said that after robbing the motorcycles, thieves dismantle them into spares, which are then sold in the various shops in Kampala.
Last week Kiira police division arrested a man with a list of boda boda number plates that he had stolen from across the country.
