Police have blocked a music concert organized by musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine at his One Love Beach in Busabala; sparking off chaotic scenes with angry fans.
It all started with dozens of policemen armed with antiriot gears and heavy water cannons deploying at the venue at around midday, hours before the kickoff of the expected show.
Bobi Wine and his firebase crew members were later seen confronting police officers at the venue.
They demanded an explanation from police for blocking the show.
Police later used teargas and the pink liquid substance to disperse the crowd.
The singer turned politician posted on his social media accounts at 1:00pn that the show had been called off.
“The situation at One Love Beach is tense. It has been turned into a war zone. As if the raid last night was not enough, this morning they blocked the roads leading to the Beach and announced that our Boxing Day show is off,” said Bobi.
Bobi Wine and Police Spokesman, Emilian Kayima gave conflicting accounts on the status of the clearance of the concert.
Earlier in the day, Kayima told several TV stations and radios that the show was not cleared by police, which has the mandate.
Meanwhile, Bobi also maintained that he complied with all expected prerequisites.
“Up to now, we have not been given any official reason as to why the show was blocked, because we wrote to police long ago and complied with all legal requirements,” said Bobi.
The politician did not provide authorization letters to prove he obtained the needed clearance to hold a concert.
Parliament on Thursday last week debated blocking the concert of the musician who is also a Member of Parliament representing Kyadondo East.
