Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has defeated his opponents to win Kyadondo East constituency as Member of Parliament (MP) with 77%.
Of the 33310 votes counted, Bobi Wine got 25659 votes, FDC’s Apollo Kantinti (1832), NRM’s Sitenda Ssebalu (4556), and independent candidates Muwadda Nkunyingi and Sowedi Kayongo got 575 and 377 respectively.
Francis Nkurunziza, the returning officer Wakiso district announced the results at the tallying center, Saza grounds in Kasangati.
The singer-turned politician had earlier given a victory speech amidst ululations from fans after results from tallying centers envisioned a landslide victory.
When the preliminary results emerged, various people came out through different platforms to congratulate the self-proclaimed ghetto president.
Notable among them were Erias Lukwago, Kampala lord mayor, NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba, Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo and FDC Secretary General Nandala Mafaabi.
FDC strongman Dr. Kizza Besigye also congratulated the singer-turned politician through twitter.
“Landslide victory for the H E Bobi Wine. Congratulations-PEOPLE POWER! That’s why Wakiso people weren’t allowed to vote 2016,” Besigye tweeted.
The Kyadondo seat fell vacant in April following a Court of Appeal ruling that upheld an earlier ruling by the High Court which overturned FDC Apollo Kantinti’s win.
