Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine the president of the National Unity Platform party (NUP) has welcomed the decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Justice Forum party (JEEMA), this week of endorsing him as their presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2021 elections
During its National Delegates Conference (NDC) which was held on Wednesday this week, JEEMA elected to support Kyagulanyi in next year’s presidential race.
“NEC recommends to NDC that Hon. Kyagulanyi be our presidential candidate in the 2021 elections and be supported and voted by JEEMA members across the country,” Asuman Basalirwa, the party Chairperson said in a statement.
Basalirwa noted that NEC recommended to NDC that JEEMA should lead an initiative within the Alliance with NUP, to ensure that all opposition and democracy seeking forces and entities that have played a role in championing the course for democratizing Uganda are accommodated and brought on board in the alliance.
On his party, Kyagulanyi welcomed this endorsement and termed it a great milestone towards victory,
“I would be lying if I don’t say I am truly humbled by this revolutionary gesture from the leaders and members of JEEMA party,” he said adding,
“As we try to build bridges and come together as forces of change, I am very indebted to these comrades for deciding to join forces with us in our bid to end the dictatorship. You have indeed espoused a deep sense of selfishness which I know will yield fruits,” he said.
This comes amid rekindled efforts among the opposition to field one candidate to contest against President Museveni.
While attending a thanksgiving party that was organized by Dr. Paul Kawanga Semwogere recently, a section of politicians; Kyagulanyi (NUP), Dr. Kizza Besigye (FDC), Basalirwa (JEEMA) and Norbert Mao of DP said that opposition unity is the only remedy that will save them from Mr. Museveni.
