
City Hall Grade One Magistrate Valerian Tumuhimbise has remanded to Kigo Prison 23 people who were arrested at National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kamwokya in possession attire related to that of security forces.
These have been charged with unlawful wearing of uniforms declared to be exclusive for persons serving in security forces contrary to section 170 (1) (2) of the Penal Code Act and Disobedience of Lawful Orders
The suspects who were unable to file for bail will return on 23rd October 2020
Some of the accused include Ntulume Ivan, Baraza Abdul, Mutebi Stephen, Hassan Bisali , Luwaga Martin, Namuleme Margaret, Namatovu Shadia, Nabakka Catherine and 15 others
Prosecution contends that on 14th October 2020, at Kamwokya Kampala district not being persons serving in the UPDF, were found wearing or in possession of uniforms, dresses bearing parts, with close appearance close to the aforementioned forces with distinctive marks.
The UPDF Act 2005 as amended under section 160 provides that the red beret is part of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ marks, accessories, insignia, decoration and uniform.
The amendments to this effect were published in the gazzette of 18th September 2019.
