Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the presidential candidate of the National Unity Platform (NUP) is today kicking off his campaigns in Pakwach district.
Kyagulanyi was meant to start his campaigns yesterday in three districts of; Arua, Nebbi and Pakwach districts but was caught up by time because they set off from Kampala late.
“We thank God, we thank all of you who stood by roadsides in over 40 towns on this route, waiting to wave at us, we arrived safely in Pakwach and we are ready to begin our campaigns tomorrow,” he said.
Before setting off, Kyagulanyi told journalists at his party headquarters in Kampala that he chose to start from West Nile and specifically Arua region because of the history that he and NUP has in that place.
It was in Arua that Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma was shot dead in 2018, following the violence that erupted in the Arua Municipality By-election
The EC campaign calendar requires all the eleven candidates to traverse 146 districts in 60 days,
While candidates had been asked to meet small groups of not more than 70 people, yesterday the Ministry of Health eased this restriction, pushing the number to 200.
