Police are investigating circumstances under which a boda boda rider identified as Rogers Byaruhanga, 33, was gunned down by unknown assailants on Saturday night in Kabale Municipality.
A resident of Murambo village, Bubare sub-county, Rubanda district, Byaruhanga was at round 10.30pm shot dead by men whom eyewitnesses said were covering their faces with hoods.
The incident occurred at Ihimbi cell, Rutooma ward, Northern Division, Kabale Municipality.
According to eye witnesses, the deceased had just entered a bar and heard someone chanting “Bobi Wine.”
“Out of curiosity, Byaruhanga walked outside the bar only to be shot instantly. The assailants who were wearing civilians clothes jumped on a waiting motorcycle and disappeared under the cover of darkness,” said an eyewitness who identity we are protecting for security reasons.
Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was recently jailed over the Arua Municipality by-election violence.
Some of his supporters have since been arrested by security forces.
ChimpReports could not confirm whether Byaruhanga’s killing was politically-motivated.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate says investigations into the shocking incident are underway.
A general inquiry file number SD 94/25/8/2018 has been opened at Kabale Central Police Station.
The shooting comes hardly two weeks after businessman Francis Baryarugamu and his wife Zamu Kenkozi were shot by unknown people in Kabale town.
The couple succumbed to wounds at Mbarara hospital.
