The National Unity Platform party (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has protested the arrest of his personal private bodyguard, Norbert Ariho, who was picked up on Friday this week.
Security forces arrested Ariho for allegedly attempting to harm Bobi Wine with the teargas canister on Tuesday this week during the fracas in Jinja.
Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson said early this week that police were investigating where Ariho could have obtained the canister and if other members of the public had
Bobi Wine however on his official social media pages protested Ariho’s arrest saying had not justification.
“Even when clear evidence came out showing that our comrade Nobert Ariho never threw the grenade that nearly killed us, as alleged by police, they have gone ahead and arrested him violently, bundled him onto a police truck and drove him to unknown destination,” he said.
Bobi noted that the same police officer called Asiimwe who he said has continued following him, and causing what he called “Mayhem” commanded his arrest.
“Definitely they are so ashamed of themselves and simply want to prove a point. We are aware of their plan to arrest, torture and detain many more people that I work with until after elections. Too bad for them, Uganda is far ahead of them,” he said.
