Bobi Wine OTT Case Sent to Constitutional Court

Buganda Road grade one Magistrate Doreen Karungi has stayed proceedings against Kyadondo Legislator Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine and four others in which they are accused of disobedience of statutory instruments by demonstrating.

The accused asked court to stay the trial pending a constitutional court appeal decision.

In her ruling, the magistrate stayed this matter and forwarded the case to the Constitutional Court for interpretation and hence the matter will come up for mention on the 5th next month.

Kyagulanyis lawyers led by Anthony Wameli earlier argued that the proceedings against their clients contravened sections in the constitution.

In court Kyagulanyi did not turn up which prompted the magistrate to issue summons against him.

All this happened amidst heavy Police deployment around Buganda Road court Wandegeya and Kiseka Market to prevent supporters from violating COVID19 standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by turning up in court in large numbers.

Prosecution contends that Bobi Wine, his brother  Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, Lule David aka Selector and Eddie Sebuufu aka Eddie Mutwe in July 2018 held a public meeting at City square Kampala challenging the introduction of Social media tax and Mobile Money tax, without adhering to section 5 and 10 of Public order Management Act 2013
