The presidential candidate of the National Unity Platform party (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine has mourned the death of popular Muslim scholar and NBS TV’s political analyst, Dr. Abdu Noor Anas Kaliisa.
Dr. Kaliisa died on Wednesday after returning home to have a rest from his workplace as it has been his daily routine, according to family members.
The family says Kaliisa simply collapsed and died.
“The cause of his death is unknown since he never complained of any illness,” said one of the family member.
In his mourning message, Kyagulanyi described the passing of Kaliisa as “very shocking and sad.”
“I extend my sympathies to his family, the media fraternity and all Ugandans who are affected by this tragedy,” he added.
Dr. Kaliisa was renowned Muslim scholar with over forty years in the service of the Muslim community in Uganda in various capacities
He was an authority in matters of Islamic law. He was a graduate from the Islamic University of Medina with a B.A in Law and a Certificate of Practice from Law Development Centre – Makerere University.
He also held a PHD in Islamic laws from Makerere University.
He was also a member of the World Jurisprudence Academy which is charged with passing laws governing the Muslims around the world.
He was an administrator and successfully established the house of Zakkah and Waqf in Uganda, the first of its kind and has been a success model for revamping other Zakkaf bodies in these country that had phased out due to poor management.
He was also the chairman of Salaam TV.
