After pulling off a memorable musical performance in the north American nation, Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine has gone on to meet with Jamaican Premier Hon. Andrew Michael Holness in what analysts have described as a show of might.
In a lengthy message to his fans that he posted on his Facebook and twitter page today, the MP commended the political leadership in Jamaica for their positive attitude towards music and musicians generally in national development.
Drawing parallels with the situation at home, Kyagulanyi praised the Jamaican leadership for utilizing performing arts and music to enhance national consciousness rather than persecute it like it is at home.
‘‘I commended him (Holness), as well as the previous governments of Jamaica for recognizing the role of music in raising the consciousness of a people, as opposed to persecuting arts and artistes’’, he says.
Besides that, he singled out the Jamaican premier for praise for his liberal approach to life. Kyagulanyi says that he was surprised to see Holness in high spirits at the festival yet some of the songs were even critical of his leadership. This he says is something unheard of back home.
‘‘It was refreshing to see him sit through several performances and even listen to songs which were critical of his government. At our meeting today, he explained that he considers music to be a mirror through which society must view itself’’, he notes.
