Bobi Wine Back on The Road in Bullet Proof Vest, Gets New Security Team

National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) is back on the campaign trail this morning after taking a day off to try to find solutions to hitches that he has encountered on the road.

Bobi Wine is today heading to the eastern districts of Budaka, Kibuku and Manafwa.

Before leaving his home in Magere this morning, Bobi Wine appeared dressed in a red jumpsuit and a bullet proof vest as well head gear.

He said he decided to get better prepared for danger in the field.

“The reason I am dressed like this is not for anything but because I know they are targeting me and they want to harm me,” he said.

“They think that if they kill me it will be good for them but they don’t realize that it will make matters worse.”

Bobi Wine yesterday filed a complaint before the Electoral Commission accusing Police and the UPDF of trying to kill him.

Armed with dozens of photos taken from the field, Bobi Wine said police had shot bullets at his vehicle with the aim of killing him.

Police has since denied these allegations saying they have no intention of terminating the presidential candidate.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga told press yesterday that the Police wouldn’t try to kill a person they have been assigned to protect as a presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, Bobi Wine this morning revealed that the Electoral Commission assigned him a new security team.

It should be noted that the squad he was assigned after nomination early last month encountered several hurdles on the field as they went on with their protective duty.

The head of the team, a one Kato was on Wednesday injured on the head after a teargas canister exploded near him.

The team’s pickup truck was also reported knocked and damaged.

Addressing the new team today, Bobi Wine promised to cooperate with them.

“We want to let you know that we don’t have any issues with police and other security organs, but we also aren’t afraid of them,” he said.

“We therefore ask you to work closely with our security and make sure that you are not here to fight with us.”
