Robert Kyagulanyi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate has been arrested.
Bobi Wine was picked up following an impasse with security officers in Luuka district,. Police and the army during the incident fired teargas to disperse Bobi Wine’s supporters.
Some of the candidate’s team members were injured in the process including one identified only as Ashraf who who works with the NUP affilaited Ghetto TV.
He was reportedly severely affected by teargas and had to be rushed to a local health facility.
Bobi Wine has severally been accused by authority of disregarding guidelines set by the Electra Commission to avoid attracting crowds to his rallies.
EC Chairman Justice Byabakama last week warned that Non-compliance with the Guidelines issued for the campaign period “will necessitate intervention by law enforcing agencies, among other measures.”
“The Commission wishes to emphasise that the health and safety of voters, their families, candidates, security personnel, the media and the general public should be of paramount consideration,” he said
