In their struggle to return to the top, Express FC has received a major financial boost in the 2018-19 campaign.
The Wankulukuku side has received a tune of Sh400M from leading online betting firm Betway for one year. And it is understood that this is a renewable contract for about three years.
Announcing the deal at an event held on Tuesday morning at Hotel Africana in Kampala, Betway Country manager Adelle Agaba noted:
As Betway, we are delighted to announce that we are continuing our support for local football with the drive to make Express FC great again this 2018/2019 season.
We are happy to announce that we will be Express FC’s headline sponsor for the FY2018/2019 season. We will be sponsoring the club with a tune of Sh400M.”
Adelle clarified that the package includes Shirt Sponsorship and stadium naming rights, packaged with a leveraging budget as development partners for the team and management of the club.
Speaking in reception, Express FC chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka revealed his delight: “This is a big achievement for the club and we pledge total support for our new sponsors.”
Kiwanuka urged the club fans (and officials) to remain disciplined as the only way to protect the image of the club and the sponsors.
Founded in 1957, the club has scooped six league titles and ten Uganda cups.
With six games played in the ongoing campaign, Express FC are fifth on the log with eleven points.
Express is arguably the most supported club in Ugandan football, an honour they share with SC Villa.
Betway joins Buganda Land Board, Uganda Breweries and Equity bank as the partners for Express FC this season.
The Red Eagles join Betway Power Basketball club, Kobs Rugby club as the three clubs that are sponsored by the leading online betting firm.
It should be noted that Betway Uganda also sponsors the National Pool League, UPDF Boxing team and the side has been involved in other CSR activities towards the development of Sports and communities in the country.
Breakdown of the sponsorship package:
Kit Sponsorship – All Express kit and merchandise that include game days kits, training kit, travel kit and gear will be provided by Betway.
Stadium Naming rights – Express FC stadium will be renamed ‘Betway Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium’. Betway will ensure that the stadium is improved and renovated to look presentable for the club and all people that use it.
Players and technical team welfare – Betway is to make sure players who are the biggest asset for the club and sponsors are well taken care of and motivated.
Skills development partner – Express FC players and management will receive support from our international Football management partner ‘Forward zone’ to enable the players have a chance to grow further and for the management team to get trainings on Sports management at a higher level.
