Lottery and gaming companies operating in Uganda have been told to adhere with the regulation governing the industry, and failure to respect the rules will see some operators being taken to courts of Law.
The Executive Director of the Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, Edgar Agaba said they have been receiving complaints from the general public about some operators who are operating against the Law of the industry, and now it’s time for the regulator to take action in order to safeguard the public.
“As regulators of Lotteries and Gaming business in the country, we shall not hesitate to take serious action against any player in the gaming industry. All licensed companies should follow the laws which govern the industry for the good of the general public,” he warned the operators.
Uganda is among the countries in East Africa which has attracted many gambling and Lottery companies offering sports gambling.
This has attracted many youth to participate in sports betting. However, on a sad note some of the betting companies have been found operating against the Laws which governs the industry.
Speaking at the Launch of a new Lottery game “Takula Cash” which is branded product of Lidtech Uganda, Agaba said no rotary company should open their doors before 10:00am.
They are also not supposed to permit under-25s to gamble, he said.
According to the Law, once a gaming and Lottery company is caught breaking such regulations, the Culprits is bound to face up to two years in jail or a fine of Shs1 million.
“It’s illegal for gaming companies to start their business before 10:00am. As regulators, we are going to improve on our supervision work. Those found operating against the Law, their operating Licenses will be canceled and where necessary we shall involve the courts of Law to prosecute the offenders,” he added.
Lidtech Uganda is subsidiary of Lidtech Africa a panafrican Lottery company based in South Africa.
The Chairman board of Lidtech Uganda, Van-der –Spuy assured Ugandans that they are willing to operate under the Laws that regulate Lotteries and Gaming in Uganda.
“As Lidtech Uganda we are going to adhere with the legal instrument regulating the Lottery business and all out clients are going to benefit from our new product because the of wider varieties of prizes to be worn once clients buys the lottery card,” he said.

According to Aaron Kakoza, the general manager Lidtech Uganda, the game will be no different from other Lotteries which Ugandans are familiars with.
The Takula cash Launch was presided over by the chairman board of Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, Manzi Tumubwoine who challenged the youth to gamble but with care because it’s not sure deal that Uganda like other countries.
