Patrick Besigye Keihwa, the serving Kabale district chairperson could lose the NRM party flag for the position going by the preliminary results from the area.
Keihwa who is also the Vice President Uganda Local Government association has been the district chairperson since 2011.
In the primaries, he is facing tough competition from Nelson Nshangabasheija who is the Katuna Town Council mayor and Dennis Nzeirwe, the Kyankwanzi deputy Resident District Commissioner.
By publication of this story, most of the villages had finished polling and Nshangabasheija was leading the park
Police was on standby to avoid any electoral related crimes.
“We have deployed across the district and shall ensure that the exercise goes on peacefully,” said Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson.
Keihwa vowed to respect the people’s decision if the exercise is done in a free and fair manner.
“So far this election has been peaceful and we believe that the people of Kabale are going to decide based on their choice. I will accept to follow any of their decisions,” said Keihwa.
