The former Presidential Candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine have made progress towards coming up with a common strategy for 2021 elections, stakeholders have said.
The FDC party chairman, Mr Waswa Biriggwa, said the two parties have held a series of meeting with a view to working together to defeat the NRM government in the 2021 general elections.
“We have met twice with the People Power group led by Bobi Wine and we are yet to meet again to work out the modalities of defeating the current government. We shall notify the public about our final and agreed strategy very soon,” Mr Biriggwa told journalists at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday.
“Much as FDC as a party has not yet participated in the talks yet, Dr Besigye is doing it on our behalf and as a party, we are ready to join hands with other groups with similar ideologies,” he added.
In May, Dr Besigye and Bobi Wine started informal meetings about joining hands to defeat the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and President Museveni who has been in power since 1986.
Some of the consideration includes fronting one strongest candidate in the presidential elections in 2021 in which Mr Museveni now aged 74, is also expected to contest for the sixth elective term.
Mr Biriggwa also told journalists that FDC will not join Democratic Party bloc led by Norbert Mao because it’s not a neutral alliance they can associate with.
He said that FDC will only join a neutral political alliance if it is not affiliated to any political party.
“Just like Mao cannot join FDC, we cannot also join DP. If they want us to join forces, let them form a new platform which can accommodate all political parties but not DP bloc,” Mr Biriggwa said.
