The famous Royal Ascot Goat Races which were previously held at the Speke Resort on the shores of Lake Victoria return with a bang on August 25.
“Yes, it is true, the race is on in August,” Crane Management Director Rajiv Ruparelia told ChimpLyf on Sunday.
The event was an annual Kampala tradition since 1993 till around 2012.
Managed by the defunct Crane Bank, the event had rapidly grown in popularity with organisers choosing to model it after the Royal Ascot horse races in England, complete with amazing outfits and hats.
Kampala partiers are expected to throng the race as previous events had become a favourite spot in the Ugandan social calendar.
The best dressed couple and the person wearing the most sophisticated hat would win a prize.
Unlike in horse races where the animals display amazing speed and footwork, goat handlers push a padded horizontal barrier on wheels around the track to keep the goats from grazing, fighting or running backwards during the race.
