Batambuze Named in Gor Mahia’s Squad to Face Everton

Ugandan defender Shafik Batambuze is part of the contingent from Kenya that will travel to England ahead of the game between Everton and Kenyan champions Gor Mahia.

The left back who recently joined Gor Mahia from Tanzanian outfit Singinda United in part of the 27 man squad for K’Oghalo.

The contingent left Nairobi for England on Friday morning at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport aboard Kenyan Airways.

However, Batambuze and Rwandese striker Jacques Tuyisenge have not travelled with the rest of the team after delays in processing their Visas.

The duo will instead travel on Saturday to join the rest of the squad ahead of the game slated for 7th November 2018 at Goodson Park in Liverpool.

The trip is fully sponsored by betting firm SportPesa who are kit sponsors for both Gor Mahia and Everton. To qualify for the friendly game, Gor Mahia had to tussle it out with other seven teams from Kenya and Tanzania where the winner got the ticket to England.

This will be the second time that the Kenyan champions will be facing the toffees. Last year, Gor Mahia held Everton to a one all draw in a game played at National stadium Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

Wayne Rooney scored for Everton while Jacques Tuyisenge got Gor Mahia’s goal in a game that another Ugandan, Godfrey Walusimbi featured before moving to Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa.
