Basketball: Mixed Results For Uganda U16s Against Rwanda

Uganda Under-16 girls’ basketball team, the Junior Gazelles, improved their chances of qualifying for the FIBA Africa U16 Nations Championships with their second consecutive win in the qualifiers that are currently on in Kigali, Rwanda.

Uganda started well beating Tanzania58-39 on Tuesday and continued with same form overcoming the hosts, Rwanda 63-55 in a tightly-fought game.

Gazelles Maria Mwajjuma was, arguably, the best player on the court raking in 31 points for Uganda recording 36 rebounds and two assists.

The girls will return to action on Friday when they take on Tanzania in the second round of qualifiers.

In other match played, Rwanda’s boys paid back to Uganda by smashing the Junior Silverbacks 96-36 in an almost one-sided game.

The boys will now pray to beat Rwanda with a better margin on Saturday in the return match.
