Former Kampala South Regional Police Commander Siraje Bakaleke must have fled the country to evade arrest over charges of abuse of office and kidnap.
The revelation was made by a state attorney while appearing before the Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday.
Ms Harriet Angom told court presided over by Magistrate Moses Nabende that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been alerted to track his movements.
“As per the last minutes we heard from police, they indicated that he (Bakaleke) must have fled the country, however communication has been made to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to track his travel history,” Ms Angom told court.
The case against Bakaleke and several others had come up for mention and the senior state attorney also informed court that investigations in the case are in the completion stage but the absence of Bakaleke is delaying the whole process.
However the police has since been put on alert to arrest Mr Bakaleke on site.
Mr Bakaleke is facing charges in relation to allegations of abuse of office, embezzlement, obtaining money by false pretence and kidnap.
Mr Bakaleka 34, faces the charges with six other police officers who include; ,Mr Robert Munezero 31, ,Mr Innocent Nuwagaba 32, ,Mr Robert Asiimwe Ray 37, ,Mr Junior Amanya 28, ,Mr Gastavas Babu 27 and,Mr Kenneth Zirintusa 26.
Others are a businessman, Mr Samuel Nabeta Mulowooza 30, the Managing Director of EYEPOWER Engineering Company and a city lawyer, Mr Paul Mugoya Wanyoto.
Mr Nabende extended the warrant of arrest against Mr Bakaleka and adjourned the matter to December 14.
Prosecution states that Mr Bakaleke, Mr Munezero ,Mr Nuwagaba ,Mr Asiimwe ,Mr Amanya ,Mr Babu and ,Mr Zirintusa and others still at large between February 4 and 11, 2018 in Kampala while employed in the Uganda police Force in various ranks and appointments did or directed to be done arbitrary acts prejudicial to the interests of their employer or of a one Jang Seungkwon in abuse of the authority of their offices by causing the said Jang to be wrongfully arrested and confined.
