Anti-corruption grade one magistrate Moses Nabende has granted bail to five people who are charged with 8 counts relating to kidnap and extortion of money.
Those freed on bail are D/ASP Munezero Robert Ray, D/ASP Nuwagaba Innocent, PC Amanya Junior, PC Babu Gastavas and Kenneth Zirintuusa.
One other suspect, however, Detective Asiimwe Robert was remanded to Luzira having failed to present sureties in court.
The seventh suspect, Hajj Siraje Bakaleke on the other hand was absent in court, despite previous summons.
This prompted the magistrate to issue a Warrant of Arrest against him.
Court before granting the suspects bail, considered among others, the fact that they responded to criminal summons issued against them and presented substantial sureties.
Prosecution also didn’t raise any objection to the bail application.
The suspects were ordered to pay cash bail of 7 million shillings each while each of their sureties was ordered to sign a non-cash bond of 150 million shillings.
The case was adjourned to 19th November 2018.
The suspects are said to have conspired to kidnap three Korean nationals with the intention to secretly or wrongfully confine and defraud them of 415,000 US dollars
