The Congolese legendary Lingala star Awilo Longomba, who jetted in the Country on Wednesday afternoon, has assured Ugandans that Uganda’s Music is respected and played internationally.
Speaking at the press conference on Wednesday afternoon at Serena Hotel, Awilo confessed that he has always heard Ugandan Music played wherever he goes.
In response to our reporter’s question of what Ugandan artists need to do so as to gain international recognition, Awilo was quick to disagree with the reporter, saying that Ugandan Music is already at the international level and so are the Musicians.
The flamboyant legend who revealed that he has an outstanding relationship with Uganda, cited an example of Jose Chameleone and Eddy Kenzo, whom he said have on several occasions represented Uganda in big platforms around the World.
“You don’t need to worry, Uganda’s Music is international and I have always heard it being played everywhere I go.
I am always invited to Nigeria by young artists and I have realized that Ugandan Music is highly played everywhere in Nigeria and not only Nigeria but so many Countries I go to.
I don’t know why you people don’t realize how big your artists are, for example Eddy Kenzo has shared stage with big names in the Music industry in the World, I recently shared stage with him in Dubai, where almost every big artist performed.
Even your Comedians are amazing, I met with Patrick Salvador in Dubai,” said Awilo.
On why his Music is no longer being distributed in the Country like it used to be way back in the 90’s and earlier 2000’s, the singer said that it is due to the changes in trends and preferences.
“I believe with the coming up of the new generation and different music genres that have come up, have greatly affected the distribution of my Music in Uganda. Changes in time, I remember way back during my days, music was distributed manually, use of tapes, compact discs, but now the young generation use i Tunes, YouTube and so much more.
Inspite of those few changes, in fact nothing much has changed in my music, it is still shinning in Uganda and is highly listened to.”
Awilo jetted into the Country on Wednesday evening a head of his concert slated for Friday 5 at Serena Hotel, Kampala.
While addressing the press at the same event, Ms. Annette Nakiyaga, UBL’s Head of Luxury Portfolio said that Awilo was their ultimate choice, saying that “The Singleton believes in crafting first impressions to make lasting ones, and who better to bring than Awilo, a legend who has made his mark with unforgettable hits.”
The show organized by Cents events, Fenon events and sponsored by Singleton, his legion of fans can surely expect an overdose of the energetic moves that endeared him to Uganda and the rest of Africa over the years.
The show will be Awilo’s second show following his show in the Country where he was invited by the Kabaka in 1999 to perform at the New Year’s (2000) eve.
With his famous hits like ‘Rosalina,’ ‘Coupe Bibamba’ and ‘Karoline’ among others, that are tipped to evoke feelings of nostalgia, revelers can surely count on the evergreen Awilo to bring the house down with all-time favorites.
The Soukous singer will be joined by Ugandan local artists Levixone, Jackie Chandiru, Cindy and Eddy Kenzo among many others.
