Fans of the legendary Awilo Longomba were taken to ‘Soukous heaven’ as they reunited with the musical genius of the Congolese artiste last night at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Awilo took revelers down memory lane with some of his all-time bangers like Coupe Bibamba, Cache cache,Porokondo and Karoline among others, allowing the hundreds who had thronged the venue to reminisce about the good-old days as some unleashed dance strokes they had not had to employ since the late 90s.
Awilo who started his music career back in 1995 is no stranger to Uganda. The star had last performed in the Country 20 years ago and grew to love the Uganda so much that, he even infused some Luganda in one of his biggest hits. On Friday evening at the Serena, it was the happy reunion all had hoped for.
The star who was performing with his whole entire Paris band, also brought out some of the guest acts like BM, whom he just collaborated with on one of hit song ‘Rosalina,’ which has since gone viral and become a house hold song all over the world.
“I am sure we can all attest that the show was amazing. We hoped to give everyone an unforgettable experience which is what the Singleton is all about and we delivered,” said Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Luxury Portfolio at UBL.
Revelers stayed on their feet throughout the two and a half hour long show, as the Congolese maestro delivered an electric performance.
Awilo shared stage with a few Ugandan stars including Eddy Kenzo, Dr. Jose Chameleone, Jackie Chandiru and Levixone among others.
The show which was organized by Cents Events and sponsored by Singleton, ended at around 11:45 Pm, leaving many of his fans, yearning for more.
