Mukono MP and Shadow Local Government Minister, Hon. Betty Nambooze has come out questioning the motive behind awarding fallen combatant Dr. Andrew Lutakome Kayiira with a heroes’ medal.

Nambooze while speaking to press at parliament, termed the award was mockery, and castigated President Yoweri Museveni for not taking time to avail the Scotland yard report on how Kayiira was killed.

“Kayiira was killed on 9th March 1987. We then hired Scotland yard to compile a report on his killing. The report was compiled but President Museveni sat on it”, she said.

The MP added that Democratic Party (DP) legislators who tried to follow up on the issue were persecuted including John Ssebana Kizito and Hon. Issa Kikungwe.

To the late Kayiira’s family, Nambooze “not to be swayed from joining efforts with democracy seeking forces.”

“Kayiira’s issues are not family matters entirely. Kayiira’s ideals were greatly cherished by those who followed him to the bush. Issues concerning the liberation of this country belong to the whole nation not the family”, she said.

Meanwhile, Nambooze adds that it was an insult gifting Kayiira’s family with a medal alongside soldiers who almost assaulted land commission boss Lady justice Catherine Bamugemereire early this year.

Bmugemereire was on an on-spot assessment tour of contested land on Mutungo hill in Kampala.
