The Association of the Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) has urged its members in the greater Kigezi region to practice professional and responsible tourism for sustainable development.
Everest Kayondo the Chairman AUTO emphasized the need for tour operators to conduct business with the greatest level of integrity and professionalism.
“If you want to grow as a business and benefit from various incentives available for tourism businesses in the country, you must go formal to build a reputable company brand” he said.
Kigezi region has over the years seen a growing number of tour companies and tour guides in the region thanks to the presence of various tourism attractions like Lake Bunyonyi, Mountain Gorillas and many others.
While addressing over 100 tour companies from the greater Kigezi region at Cephas Inn Kabale, AUTO’s CEO Gloria Tumwesigye encouraged tourism practitioners to adopt principles of sustainable tourism development in their operations, as they benefit everyone.
“As we encourage you to operate more professionally, we also urge you to develop the type of tourism that not only benefits your business but also builds the communities and protects the environment” Tumwesigye said.
While there AUTO also donated 50 life jackets to the students and pupils that have to cross lake Bunyonyi to get to school.
