AUPL: Vipers Held by Resilient JMC Hippos

Jinja Municipal council Hippos denied Vipers maximum points after the two sides shared spoils in the game played at Kakindu stadium on Tuesday.

Vipers took the lead through Duncan Sseninde but second half substitute Daniel Shabena levelled matters for the game to end in a one all draw.

Vipers started the game as the dominant side and Duncan Sseninde almost gave the visitors the lead after eleven minutes but he blasted the chance wide.

Sseninde however paid for the earlier miss in the 17th minute with a long range scorcher off Keziron Kizito’s assist.

The hosts then started pushing for the leveller and Ismail Watenga made a fine save from Herbert Kakande’s effort midway through the first half.

Shafik Bakaki cleared Walter Bankene’s header off the line with four minutes to halftime.

Kezron Kizito sustained an injury and was replaced by Brian Nkuubi after recess while the home side brought on Daniel Shabena for Patrick Onyango.


With an hour played, decease the game was brought to a temporary halt for ten minutes after JMC Hippos started pelting stones at referee Ochom.

After police intervention, seek the game restarted and the hippos equalised in the 72nd minute with Shabena brushing Viane Ssekajjugo’s cross into the net.

Abdallah Mubiru brought on Brian Kakaire and Alfred Leku for Duncan Sseninde and Musa Esenu respectively but Hippos held on until the final whistle.

The result means Vipers move down to fourth with nine points while JMC Hippos lie 15th with two points.
