AUPL: Shock as SCVU, JMC Revel in Narrow Victories

Kankou Coulibaly recorded a game high nineteen points and five rebounds as Mali dashed Uganda’s hopes of qualifying for a first ever quarter finals in the women Afrobasket.

The West Africans controlled the score chart early in the game leading 22-16 after first quarter.

The Gazelles soaked further only managing six points to seventeen for the Malians.

Despite Flavia Oketcho and Peace Proscovia combining to score 28 points, prostate the team failed to counter their opponents’ agility despite putting a spirited fight in the last quarter levelling 19-19 but the damage was already done.

The game ended 73-55.

Uganda will play the remaining of the competing battling for their possible best position on the 9th to 12th place.
New league entrants Jinja Municipal Hippos shocked old timers and army side Simba Fc by a lone goal away in Bombo barracks to pick just the second Azam premier league win of the season.

Defender Constatine Nalumoso grabbed the win with a strong header towards the end of the game after an unfruitful first half.

The win pushes the Jinja side to eighth position with same number of points with town rivals Bul Fc who heavily harvested at Maroons, nurse winning 4-1.


In the other game, doctor SC Victoria University ended URA Fc’s unbeaten run with a late Farouk Kawooya goal of a well executed counter attack.

URA Fc had forced the hosts to restart the game in the fifth minute with a nice short range strike from Frank Kalanda.

Titus levelled the matters fifteen minutes later from the spot after Farouk Kawooya was fouled in the danger zone.
