AUPL: Malingumu Scores Brace to Stun Former Side

Uganda Premier League
The Saints 2-0 BUL

Julius Malingumu struck twice as Saints defeated BUL in the Azam Uganda Premier League game played at the Champions stadium, buy Mwererwe on Friday.

A goal in either half from the fast striker ensured he stunned his former employers who released him in January this year.

Playing at their new home ground for the first time, the Saints looked the better side right from kickoff despite both teams failing to create enough chances.

Veteran striker Wakaza had the first attempt at goal in the opening two minute albeit his effort went just wide.

Malingumu kept troubling the visitor’s centre backs (Asuman Alishe and Junior Mukisa) and he almost broke the deadlock at the 20th minute mark but his header off Rogers Aloro’s cross went fruitless.

The stocky forward put the army side ahead with three minutes to play in the first half with an absolute beauty.

Malingumu received the ball on the right wing from Rogers Aloro about 40 yards from goal and he curled the ball beyond goalkeeper Paul Munjampani’s reach.

Three minutes after recess,Malingu doubled Saint’s lead dribbling through BUL’s defence before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Despite several attempts from BUL and perhaps a better display in the second stanza, Saints remained impenetrable at the back.

Manager Frank Anyau brought on Isaac Sserunkuma, Godfrey Buni and Razak Saheed but all efforts seemed futile on the day.

Godfrey Wakabu limped off after sustaining an injury in the 68th minute and was replaced by Augustine Walusimbi

The result moves Saints from 12th position to 9th on 21 points while BUL remain locked in the drop zone in 14th position on 16 points
