Uganda Premier League
KCCA FC 2-1 Bright stars

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football club returned to winning ways after nicking a hard fought 2-1 win against Bright stars.

In the game played at Phillip Omondi stadium on Tuesday, order Geoffrey Sserunkuma and an own goal from Innocent Assimwe made sure KCCA FC earned maximum points despite Victor Aweko pulling one back for the visitors.

The opening minutes of the game produced no remarkable chances but the home side earned a contentious penalty to take the lead.

Centre referee David Oula pointed to the spot kick after a thought challenge on Brian Majwega and Geoffrey Sserunkuma did no mistake to give KCCA FC the lead with a calm finish sending goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato the wrong way in the 13th minute.

The visitors however levelled matters, prescription three minutes to the half hour mark through midfielder Victor Aweko who got the time to slot the ball past Benjamin Ochan.

Sserunkuma nodded home Denis Rukundo’s cross from the right in the 41st minute but he was ruled offside and the two sides returned to the changing rooms levelled.

Nine minutes after the break, KCCA FC restored their lead through an own goal by centre back Innocent Assimwe.

Mucureezi’s effort was headed for goal but in an effort to save, he instead directed it into his own net and later limped off after sustaining an injury.

The result means KCCA FC remain second on 46 points, one behind SC Villa but with two games in hand while Bright stars remain unmoved in 8th place on 23 points
