Arua Violence Suspects Committed to High Court

Gulu magistrate court presided by grade one magistrate Kintu Isaac Imuran has committed Kassiano Wadri and 26 others to the high court for further trial on the charge of treason, based on allegations that they pelted stones onto the presidential motorcade on the 13th of August.

Omia Patrick, the senior resident state attorney also said the state has added another count on top of treason which is acting with intent to alarm, annoy or ridicule the president which is contrary to section 24C of the Penal Code act.

The state accuses the suspects of blocking the right of way of the president during the time he was leaving for Kampala after campaigning for his candidate Nasuru Tiperu

Meanwhile the same court issued criminal summons to 10 accused persons who failed to appear in court today.

These included MPs Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine Zaake Francis, Gerald Karuhanga, Paul Mwiru, Abola Jane and five others

Defense lawyer, Tony Kitara informed court that both Bobi wine and Zaake were attending a conference in United States and that others suffered vehicle mechanical challenges while coming to court.

Magistrate Kintu said those who skipped court today must appear on the 6 August 2019 so that they can be committed at once to the High court

The defense team that included Tony Kitara, Caleb  Alaka and Ochaya Acellam accepted the ruling and promised that the missing accused would be in court by the 6th of August 2019.
