Artists in the country under their umbrella organization the National Culture Forum have petitioned the state Minister for Gender and Culture seeking to be supported and recover from effects of COVID19 which has greatly affected Uganda culture and Creative Industries (CCI)
In the petition received by the Ministry On Tuesday this week , the Artists revealed that being that Culture and creative industries contribute 3% to Uganda’s GDP there is need to support it and continue providing the government with revenue on top of providing employment to the youth
The sectors said to have been affected include Film, Music , media, multimedia, audio, visual art , literature and book publishing as well as Fashion and design
“CCI is a very resilient sector that has not only supported efforts to defeat COVID19 but have also easied the physiological and social impact of the lockdown and other measures on the population.”
“It has been reported that as the measures began to bite population turned into increased consumption of music, films literature and CCI products.”
This petition is signed by Artists including Joanita Kawalya, Marian Ndagire, Anita Seruwagi, Batambuze Charles and Wisdom Gideon
The National Cultural Forum (NCF) is a private sector led body with representative country wide members drawn from all domains of art and culture as provided for by the Uganda National culture policy of 2006.
