The State House Anti-Corruption Unit on Monday night arrested acting Executive Director of the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre (NAGRIC) and Data Bank in Entebbe.
Dr Anthony Ntate was arrested by Lt Col Edith Nakalema’s team and detained at Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala.
His arrest followed a February 13th 2020 petition to Nakalema’s Unit by a one Edison Naijuka over conflict of interest in matters procurement.
According to the petitioner, while Ntate served as deputy production manager and chairperson contracts committee, he used his position to operate as procurement officer and as a result, influenced recruitment and sourcing of his own brother’s companies.
The said companies belonging to Joseph Balironda’s family are; Cardino Partners Consult Ltd and Balix Imports and Exports Ltd.
The petitioner claims that Ntate awarded contracts of supplying fencing poles to his brother’s companies without declaring conflict of interest.
One of these contracts according to the petitioner is contained under reference number NAGRIC/SUPLS/18-19/00001 with call of order number P00002 dated November 9th 2018, the supply worth 241,917,700 shillings.
It is after this deal that the petitioner through Credo and Co Advocates rushed to Nakalema and reported a corruption matter.
Sources at State House Anti-Corruption Unit told ChimpReports that the suspect will be produced to anti-corruption Court today Tuesday.
