Army, Police Deploy Near Bobi Wine’s Magere home Ahead of His Nomination

Police have deployed heavily in the areas surrounding Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine’s home in Gayaza ahead of his presidential nomination on Tuesday, November 3.

Residents of Wampewo, Kasangati and Magere village on Monday woke up to the presence of  military, police and plain-clothed security personnel in their area.

Mr Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, said the plain clothed intelligence officers are gathering information in response to what Kyagulanyi, said that he would mobilize many people for a nomination procession which is illegal and should it be done, security has to be in position to deal with it accordingly.

Police on Sunday wrote to Bobi Wine, indicating to him the route that he would use to the nomination venue in Kyambogo on Tuesday.

Police said he would use the Magere-Kumbuzi-Kisaasi-Ntinda route escorted by a police vehicle.

In response, Bobi Wine said: “Police has written to me about this route as I go for nominations tomorrow. We have no problem and we shall follow this route to the nominations venue. After that, we shall head straight to our office in Kamwokya where we shall launch our manifesto.”

“Today, we saw people mobilised by NRM standing along different roads, guarded by the police, unmolested. We hope the police will behave the same way if our supporters stand and by the road to wave to us,” he added.
