Journalists were on Monday thrown out of a meeting where they were initially invited by recently promoted Maj Gen Timothy Sabiiti Mutebile, who heads the Engineering Brigade of the UPDF, and Kabale Municipality mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha.
Local pressmen say they were surprised when they were abruptly thrown out of the meeting that was initially branded as a “development meeting with local leaders.”
According to announcements that run on local radio, the meeting was supposed to be attended by among others LC 1 and LC 2 chairpersons and was meant to discuss development in Kabale Municipality.
Yet, upon arriving at Little Ritz hotel, the venue, journalists say they were told by Mayor Byamugisha to get out because the organizer, Gen Mutebile didn’t want them in the meeting.
An insider in the meeting however, told our reporter that the meeting was never about development but was meant to galvanize political support for the army general who is eying a parliamentary seat in the 2021 general elections.
Another source told us that in the meeting, Gen Mutebile confirmed to the local council leaders that he will be retiring this year to focus on campaigns for Kabale Municipality MP.
The Municipality is currently represented by independent MP Andrew Aja Baryayanga who in 2011 defeated former Minister Serapio Rukundo.
Others that have shown interests in the seat are Joseph Ntegyereize Mutebile the younger brother of General Mutebile, Dan Musinguzi Nabasa, Dr Nicholas Kamara, Alex Muhwezi and Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha.
