A 50-year-old woman has been arrested by police on the Uganda–Democratic Republic of Congo border town of Bunagana, Kisoro district with a gun.
Saidati Ndangizi was on Friday morning arrested by security in an operation led by the Kigezi Regional Police Commander ASP Denis Namuwoza in Bunagana border town where she was found having a 303 rifle with six rounds of ammunition.
ASP Namuwoza says that the operation was as result of the recent killing of a boda boda rider who was shot on the eve of Christmas in Bunagana.
More two people at Bunagana border were also robbed unspecified money by gun-wielding robbers on the same day.
The police boss said that the law enforcement body has commenced investigations into the matter.
The suspect is currently being detained at Kisoro Central Police Station.
“We have her to help in the investigations and when they are over she is to be arraigned in court and be charged with illegal possession of fire arm,” said Namuwonza.
Ndangizi says that the gun was left behind by her late husband a one Siraji Ndagizi who died in 1999 so she had been keeping it.
She denied ever using it in robberies.
