The Chief Executive Director Great Lakes Safaris and Uganda Lodges Limited Amos Wekesa has urged Government to employ the right people at the helm of country’s tourism government agencies.
Wekesa says appointing politicians who don’t know how to market the country is the biggest problem in the tourism industry.
“Government should stop bring politicians as Chairperson’s of boards because they have no clue about marketing tourism and they don’t understand it,” He said.
Wekesa also warned government against merging Uganda Tourism Board and Uganda Wildlife Authority.
“I know the government is excited about merging of institutions but l want to plea that we leave the two; Uganda Tourism Board and the Uganda Wildlife Authority because the solution is to make sure we get the right people there to do the job”.
Wekesa made the recommendations at the recent Presidential Investors’ Round Table, which among others several ways of enhancing tourism in the country.
“We discussed the up-grading of Airstrips and Aerodromes and yes, there is going to be a lot of work on upgrading airstrips across the country. Special focus will be on Pakuba(serving Murchison falls), kidepo, Kosiro, kasese and others. The government has set aside resources for those airstrips”.
