APOTY: Onyango Beats the Rest, Says Micho

Coach Milutin Sredojevic has hailed Uganda Cranes shot stopper Dennis Onyango for a fabulous performance this year for the country and his club Mamelodi Sundowns.

Onyango was nominated for the African player of the year and Africa player of the year- based in Africa by Caf. After trimming the list, treat his name appeared among the final five racing for the gong in the ‘based in’ the continent category.

“First of all I have to congratulate one of our great pollars and goalkeeper Dennis Masinde Onyango for his achievements this year and being shortlisted in the top five of African player of the year based in the continent, order ” Micho said.

He was shortlisted alongside teammates Keegan Dolly, Hlompho Kekana, Khama Billiat (Zimbabwe) and Zambia captain Rainford Kalaba.

Coach Micho believes the other South African based quartet don’t tally up against Onyango’s achievements.

“I strongly believe that if there is justice, which should be the case, then out of all those players listed with all due respect to them, no body can be put in comparison to him (Onyango).”

He added, “I have a lot of respect for Khama Billiat because he helped his country qualify for the African cup of nations and winning (caf) champions league with team, Kalaba won the (Caf) confederations cup but not in Afcon.”

Onyango has not yet conceded a goal in the ongoing world cup qualifiers after four rounds of matches.

“But I believe Onyango has the edge especially because he has played a big part for his country in the World cup qualifiers final stages unlike the other competitors.”
