ANT Official Charged With Drug Possession



Nicholas Byonanebye Kamuntu, the Spokesperson for the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) in Kigezi Region was on Wednesday charged and granted bail by the Kabale grade 1 magistrates court for allegedly assaulting a police officer and illegal possession of dangerous drugs.

Prosecution told court presided over by Magistrate John Kavuma Mugaaga, that Byonanebye on 25th February 2020 while at Kabale University during Guild Leaders campaigns; assaulted one of the officers attached to Kabale university police post when he was stopped from entering the University premises.

Prosecution also told court that after he was arrested, four sticks of marijuana were discovered in his bag.

Upon being read the charges, Byonanebye pleaded not guilty and asked court to be given bail.

He was released on a non cash bond of 2 million shillings while his two sureties executed non cash bond of one million shillings each.

He then adjourned the case till 9th March 2020 when the case will come up for mention.
